Welcome back! I am so excited to begin this new year! We had a wonderful week back together.
The children and I have been working on saying and hearing the middle sounds in words. This is helping the class develop an understanding of how words are put together. The long vowel sounds, which sound like their letter names (a, e, i, o, u), are the easiest to hear. We’ve started by listening to long vowel sounds words. First, we listen to the sounds without looking at the letters, and, later we begin to compare words and connect sounds with letters.
We gained a new super power as readers! We learned how to use pattern power to identify patterns in text. Many books for Kindergartners have a pattern of some sort. Readers use the pattern to help them read more pages.

In Math, we worked on naming numbers that come before and after other numbers. We played games where we gave clues about our numbers, and a partner had to guess what number we were thinking of!
We shared our family traditions with one another, and learned more about traditions in Mexico!
