This week in Reading Workshop, we learned that avid readers can play pretend! We reread some just-right fiction books from our book bags, and then acted them out with a friend. We practiced reading with expression and action!
Kindergartners have also been working on sounding out words and writing each sound in sequence. Correct spelling is not the focus during these activities! We are using our knowledge of letters sounds to represent each sound we hear in a word!
In Math, we have been working on solving part-whole and joining problems by using direct modeling and counting strategies. We played Cover Up 6-10 and discussed the strategies we used to figure out the missing part. We have also been representing partitions of numbers using objects, drawings, statements, and number equations! Look out for our "Five And..." homework to help reinforce these concepts at home!
We began our study on the Middle Ages this week! We began by discussing what we thought the Middle Ages was all about. We learned about the feudal system, and the different classes of people. Society back then was very different to what we are used to today!
Friday was our very first field Trip to see the Hubbard Street Company perform at the Harris Theatre. Thank you so much to our wonderful chaperones for helping us along the way! The performance was a big hit amongst the Kindergartners!
