Our food drive was a success! Students in all grades brought in food and hygiene items throughout the week in support of our food drive for the Lakeview Pantry. Katie, a staff member from the Lakeview Pantry, came in to visit us on Friday to thank us for all that we have done to help support those less fortunate. She told us all about the Lakeview Pantry, and what she does every day. We got to ask her a lot of questions, too! We learned about where they collect their food from, how it is stored, and how much they rely on the help of volunteers. She was amazed with all of the food that we had gathered! Thank you, Burley community for making our food drive a successful one! |
We have read many books by our mentor author, Leo Lionni. We noticed that he likes to use mice as characters, just like Kevin Henkes! We have been working on identifying the setting of his stories.
We were so inspired by the message in The Alphabet Tree, that we decided to create our own trees with important messages. Just like the letters in the story, we joined our letters to become words and our words to become sentences. We worked really hard to make sure that our message were important!

We played many new math games this week using dice and cards as we continue working on identifying quantities of 1-6. We used rekenreks to see the different ways we could make quantities of 1-10.
We also began identifying and building patterns. We learned that a pattern is something that repeats over and over again, and that the unit is the part that repeats.

On Friday, we ended our day with a visit from our 3rd grade buddies, and what a great visit it was! Our buddies just finished a unit on Chicago, and were excited to share it with us. Together, we created a picture of our favorite places to go in Chicago!
