We were excited to have Ms. Skibba and Mr. Roe visit us in our classroom on Thursday and Friday to teach us new ways to save and share our work on iPads!
It was a busy week in phonics! We spent the first half of the week finishing up learning about ending sounds. As our class learns how to read, we’re listening to the ending sounds in words and connecting them to letters. Students learn about last letters in words as they listen for, say, and recognize the consonant sounds at the end of words. We then moved on to learning about rhyming words. Students began recognizing that words have ending parts that are alike. This helps them understand sound/letter relationships and break words apart to solve them. As the children develop sensitivity to the sounds of oral language, they are learning to connect sounds to letter patterns. In our letter study this week, we learned the letter “q” and the letter “g.” (Don’t forget to ask for soft and hard sounds for the letter g!)
In Math, we have been identifying and representing quantities using drawings, movements, counters, number paths, and number words. We have been comparing and finding equivalent quantities using direct models and counting strategies. Don’t forget to continue using comparative language (more or greater, less or fewer, same or equal to) at home when discussing/ordering quantities!
We are beginning a new study on Mexico! We are really excited to learn about the different traditions, food, and lifestyles of our neighbors! If you know of something or someone that would help in our study, please don’t hesitate to get in contact! We would be more than happy to hear from you! Interacting with various items and hearing from experts are incredibly valuable learning experiences!
Holiday Hoopla will take place Thursday, December 17th. The boys and girls have been working hard on practicing their song for their performance, and I know you’ll be impressed!
The authors in room 003 have been working hard on creating some incredible books, and we would love it if parents could come in to visit for an author share! The share will begin at 9:15 on Friday, December 18th. Hope to see you all there!
