Today was Career Day at Burley School! We were so lucky to have THREE incredible presenters come in to talk to us about their careers. We learned about yoga from Mr. Suh and practiced some yoga poses together. We met Leona from Treehouse Cat Rescue Center and learned about volunteering to help our furry little friends. We got to listen to a professional violinist play us some classics, and she even played some songs we are more familiar with!
On Thursday, we began our new morning schedule in order to adjust minutes for reading workshop and phonics instruction. The new time for our morning body break will fall in between reading workshop and writing workshop. It may take some time for students to adjust to the new schedule, as many of our routines and procedures occur at set scheduled times. That being said, we have had a successful trial run thus far, and the earlier break also allows for better focus during writing workshop!
We are having so much fun with our Card Writing unit! Thank you to all who donated blank cards for us to use! We have learned about the many purposes of cards/postcard, the parts of a card, and the features! Look out for homework relating to our writing unit this weekend!
In reading workshop, we have been focusing on zooming in on tricky words in our book. We think about what the book is trying to tell us, pay special attention to the beginning sound, then check the picture again to see if we can figure out what the word might read.
This week has been busy and filled with inquiry! Our groups have spent much time researching and planning how they would like to share new learning of their group topic. We are excited to see how it all comes together!
We have been working with many consonant blends; st, sp, sk, sm. We have also spent much time breaking works apart into beginning parts and ending parts, and then putting them back together again!
