Thank you so much for coming to Explore More - it meant a lot to all of us! The students put an incredible amount of energy and work into their projects and presentations, and they were so excited to have their loved ones come in to see how it all came together. I am so proud of each and every one of them, and they received excellent feedback!
I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! I’m excited to be back in routine again! We are now in our 4th quarter, but we still have so much more to learn!
At Book Bash on Friday, we met one incredible author! Lori Degman, author of 1 Zany Zoo and Cock-a-Doodle-Oops!, came to Burley to speak to us and answer our questions! We learned a lot about Lori, and fell in love with her hilarious and clever books! We had many discussions around her style as an author, and noticed that she uses much rhyming and onomatopoeia.
Our mentor author in Writing Workshop is Shel Silverstein. We have read many poems by Shel Silverstein, and have even experimented with “copycatting” some of his rhythms!
In phonics, we have been playing around with changing first and last letters in words to make new words. This understanding is helping the children use strategies that will help them solve new words when they read.
This week, we also worked on recording new learning and wonderings we may have when reading a text. First and foremost, we activate our background knowledge in thinking about what we already know. We stop to record new learning, and then record any lingering questions we might have! Strong readers are always asking questions!
In Math, we have been focusing on getting to know joining and separating problems by using picture cards, acting out, playing games, using cubes, and drawing pictures. Look out for a fun math game for homework this weekend!
This week marks the last week of all after school clubs, except Horticulture Club. Horticulture Club continues until June 1st.
